Lavender

A relaxation wonder that soothes body and soul

A relaxation wonder that soothes body and soul.

Deep blue fields as far as the eye can see. A warm wind touches the flower heads and disperses the intense lavender scent through a quiet landscape. A typical holiday scene from French Provence? Well, not necessarily – because on the black soil of Moldova lavender also grows extremely well. We work in partnership with 200 small Moldovan farmers, and from their harvest derive the essential oil of lavender which gives its soothing scent to many of our products.

A classic in aromatherapy

The silvery-leaved shrub has been valued since ancient times as a bathing and washing additive, with a relaxing and calming effect. The name lavender probably comes from the Latin verb lavare, which means ‘to wash’. It’s a source of many stories and myths, some founded in truth – although we often cannot prove it today. For instance, in the grave of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun, vessels were found filled with an ointment that smelled of lavender even after 3000 years. Ancient Egyptians may have used lavender when embalming their mummies.

Relaxing the whole body

In aromatherapy, the characteristic lavender note has also proven a true classic. Its deep blue-violet colour fascinates the eye and its essential oil calms the central nervous system. In fact, lavender has a relaxing effect on the whole body – the components of lavender oil help against nervous agitation, insomnia, cramps, and even cardiovascular problems and indigestion. The regulatory effect of this ancient medicinal plant brings body and soul back into balance after a hectic day. People who find it hard to switch off at night can bathe or shower with lavender, or massage with Lavender Relaxing Body Oil, and relax ready for a good’s night sleep.
