Weleda cosmetician Lilith Schwertle

Weleda cosmetician Lilith Schwertle is an international trainer and expert in natural cosmetics.

Trend 1: Korean Skincare

Korean Skincare, also known as K-Beauty, focuses on an especially elaborate skincare routine. Its goal: an absolutely flawless, healthy, bright, and radiant complexion. It begins with oil cleansing, followed by a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and residues from the skin. Once or twice a week, an exfoliation is applied to remove excess skin cells – toners and serums are used to nourish the skin and provide sufficient hydration. Intensively nourishing sheet masks are often used in Korean Skincare. A high-quality moisturiser, daily sun protection, and rich eye creams complete the Korean skincare concept. Typically, natural ingredients such as green tea or snail mucin are used.

Taking plenty of time for skincare absolutely makes sense. Science has discovered that cosmetics boost self-esteem. This is not surprising when you consider that the skin is the largest sensory organ and that body, soul, and mind always work together within us. However, too many steps in cleansing and care can also lead to irritation: Allergies can occur, for example, when too many different active ingredients are used. Strong cleansing and frequent exfoliation can completely wash away the natural skin protection and damage the skin barrier.

I therefore recommend a gentler approach: Double cleansing is also a popular start to the skincare routine at Weleda. Especially in the evening, using the Make-up Removal Cleansing Oil is important to gently remove makeup. Afterwards, you can use the Deep Cleansing Gel – it effectively but gently removes sebum and dirt. The special thing about it: It already provides hydration during cleansing. The Refining Toner is pore-refining and revitalizing when applied afterwards.

My Tip:

At work, on the go, or right before a date: Simply close your eyes and spray the Refining Hydra Toner on your face, neck, and décolleté. Wonderfully refreshing – whether on hot summer days or in dry heating air during the cold season. And for that extra glow, Weleda offers amazing Booster Drops to discover! They can be used individually to improve specific skin properties or – depending on your personal skin needs – mixed together. For flawless, radiant, and regenerated skin.

Trend 2: Gua Sha

The beauty trend Gua Sha is based on a traditional Chinese technique that originates from traditional Chinese medicine. Translated, Gua Sha means something like "scraping out illness" – scraping the skin with a special tool, often made of jade or rose quartz, is said to relieve tension and promote blood circulation.

In cosmetics, Gua Sha stones are primarily used for facial care. A gentle massage with them supports lymphatic drainage and promotes a radiant and contoured complexion. With regular use, skin elasticity can be improved – fine lines are reduced. The massage with the Gua Sha stone also facilitates the absorption of skincare products.

When you move the Gua Sha stone from the center of the face outward, you support the natural lymphatic flow. Don’t forget to also stroke down the sides of the neck on both sides. This further supports lymphatic drainage. And give yourself a smile – this activates the hormone glands. Experience these inspiring moments of happiness!

You can also enhance the radiance of your eyes. After the massage with the Gua Sha stone, apply your favorite Weleda eye care product. Whether you choose the Contouring Eye & Lip Cream, the Smoothing Eye Cream, or the Firming Eye Cream – they all contain a complex with caffeine, which supports the radiance of the eye area. Puffiness is reduced. Massage gently from the inside out. This delicate touch also follows the lymphatic flow. Fine lines are smoothed, dark circles and puffiness are reduced.

Trend 3: Peptides

Peptides are trending in many products because they offer multiple benefits for the skin. Peptides are small protein building blocks made up of short chains of amino acids. They often act as modulators, meaning they can inhibit or activate enzymes, influence the activity of other cells, or transport substances. This allows them to affect various processes and even stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. As an ingredient in various beauty products, peptides promote the production of collagen and elastin, making the skin appear firmer and reducing wrinkles. They also support the regeneration of skin cells and improve skin texture. Peptides are generally very skin-friendly and suitable for use on sensitive skin.

Lilith Schwertle's tip on peptides

At Weleda, we use the natural peptides of the maca root. Together with other natural powerhouse ingredients, they activate cell energy in our pomegranate facial care, resulting in firmer skin and improved skin elasticity.

Do you feel like pampering yourself? Then treat yourself to an evening massage with the Firming Facial Oil after applying the Firming Face Serum. And here’s a beauty secret about collagen: With the products from Weleda’s Firming Facial Care, we’ve actually managed to increase the collagen content of the skin and even reduce deep wrinkles – thanks to our high-performance formula.

Trend 4: Healing clay

Healing clay is primarily used in cosmetics for its cleansing properties. In facial masks, it removes impurities and absorbs excess oil, which can lead to a clearer complexion. Additionally, healing clay can be used as a gentle and natural exfoliant that removes dead skin cells and makes the skin appear smoother. It can reduce redness and skin irritation. It is particularly helpful in the treatment of acne. Healing clay supports blood circulation in the skin and provides it with essential minerals. It is especially suitable for use on oily skin, as it can reduce shine and has mattifying properties.

Lilith Schwertle’s opinion on healing clay

Anyone prone to redness and swelling on the face can create a wonderful skin-soothing mask using healing clay. In my practice, I use a teaspoon of healing clay, mix it with 1–2 teaspoons of Sensitive Soothing Moisturiser - Almond, and apply the mixture to your face with a brush. If your skin barrier is weakened, use a 1:1 ratio of cream and Sensitive Recovery Face Oil - Almond. Let the mask sit for at least ten minutes. My tip: Apply a thick layer of Weleda eye cream before applying the mask. This way, you give the delicate area around your eyes an extra dose of care.

Trend 5: Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning should only be performed by trained professionals. The skin is thoroughly cleansed beforehand – a gentle exfoliation can also be a good preparation. Using a sterile scalpel or a specially designed blade, the skin is then "scraped." To avoid injuries, the blade is held at a specific angle. After the treatment, suitable serums and moisturizers are used to calm and hydrate the skin. By scraping off the top layer of skin, the skin is said to appear brighter and smoother. The procedure aims to improve skin texture and promote cell regeneration – subsequent skincare products are said to be better absorbed. Fine lines, wrinkles, and small scars appear reduced. Removing fine hairs on the skin also allows for smoother makeup application.

This is what Lilith Schwertle says about Dermaplaning

Whenever we interfere with the natural skin cycle – and we do with dermaplaning, as it unfortunately disrupts the skin barrier – expertise and know-how are essential.

Trend 6: Face Yoga

Face Yoga is a natural method to strengthen and tone the facial muscles. There are various techniques and exercises that can improve blood circulation and the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Specific muscles in the face are targeted, which can support skin firmness. Face Yoga can help maintain a youthful appearance. Ideally, 10 to 15 minutes should be dedicated to it daily.

It’s great if you take time for Face Yoga! If you do it after cleansing but before applying skincare, it can help you fully absorb the active ingredients, as blood circulation is stimulated through movement. If you don’t have time for Face Yoga, try a warm, moist facial compress. It provides instant relaxation, stimulates the microcirculation of capillaries, and allows skincare products to work wonderfully afterward.

Trend 7: Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is a plant-based compound often used in skincare products as a natural alternative to retinol. Like retinol, it is used to combat signs of aging – but it does not cause side effects such as skin irritation or increased sensitivity to UV radiation. This makes it suitable for sensitive skin types.

Bakuchiol can improve skin elasticity and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, it has antioxidant properties that protect the complexion from harmful environmental influences. Bakuchiol is also a suitable remedy for treating acne and skin impurities.

At Weleda, we use Bakuchiol in body care. Be sure to apply the Revitalising Serum Body Lotion - Blue Gentian with Collagen+ Active Complex made from blue gentian, edelweiss, and centella asiatica. In a user test conducted after 4 weeks of twice-daily application, the cell renewal rate in the epidermis was increased by 39%. Additionally, it improves skin elasticity, regenerates the skin barrier, and prevents pigmentation spots by neutralizing free radicals. The facial care products with gentian, edelweiss, and centella even boast a collagen increase of +60%*! What’s special about this care is that it enhances the natural glow from within.

Trend 8: Double Cleansing

Double Cleansing is a two-step skincare routine aimed at thoroughly cleansing the skin. First, an oil-based facial cleanser is used to remove oil-soluble residues like makeup. In the second step, another cleansing product removes these impurities as well as water-soluble dirt or sweat.

Double Cleansing is often used in Korean skincare and promises deep pore cleansing without drying out the skin. This method ideally prepares the skin for subsequent skincare products.

This is what the Weleda cosmetician says about Double Cleansing

Did you know that you can customize your Double Cleansing ritual with Weleda, depending on the skin sensation you want to experience? You always start with the Make-up Removal Cleansing Oil. For the second step, you can choose: Use either the Deep Cleansing Gel, the Gentle Cleansing Foam, or – for minty freshness and to tackle occasional blemishes – the Purifying Gel Cleanser. Always finish with the Refining Toner. It’s super easy to spray on, very practical, and refines the pores.

Trend 9: Slugging

Slugging involves applying a thick layer of an occlusive, sealing cream like petroleum jelly to the face overnight as the final step in the skincare routine. This is intended to seal the skin barrier and minimize moisture loss. Slugging is particularly beneficial for dry and very dry skin, as it helps prevent moisture from evaporating and keeps the skin soft and supple. However, slugging is not recommended for oily skin types or people with blemished skin.

The Weleda cosmetician on Slugging

My slugging tip is a true classic: Skin Food Original by Weleda. In addition to soothing chamomile, calendula, and pansy, our bestseller also contains rosemary, orange, lavender, and benzoin. It’s absolute superfood for dry skin, sustainably strengthens the skin barrier, and provides long-lasting hydration. The great thing about Skin Food is that it’s not only wonderful for the face but also for hands or rough skin areas. Why not try slugging on your hands? Apply the Skin Food Cream generously to your hands in the evening, put on cotton gloves, and wake up the next morning to beautifully soft, cared-for hands.
