What is so special about natural fragrances?The human being has an inner relationship with natural fragrances because they originate from the same flourishing nature as it does. Also, natural fragrances are more multi-layered and more complex than synthetic ones. Due to this inner relationship, they can have a deeper and more extensive, i.e. holistic, emotional impact on people. From an anthroposophic point of view, the plant conveys its existence through its fragrance. In a natural fragrance composition, we therefore always encounter this essential element, even if we are not aware of it.
How are fragrances created at Weleda?The influence of fragrances at the emotional level is central to the development of the fragrance. Fragrances can vitalise, calm, balance, ground, mentally stimulate, trigger anxieties or brighten the mood. In this context, Weleda takes into account that the fragrance fits the target group and supports them in their respective life situation. The aroma-therapeutic approach thereby expands on the purely perfumistic approach of conventional cosmetics and is a central component in the development and production of holistic natural cosmetics.
When developing a fragrance, Weleda also considers the varied effects essential oils have on the skin; examples of these are the warming, cooling, anti-inflammatory or blood flow promoting effects.
Fragrance preferences can change, depending on age or situation. For this reason, Weleda has established a Fragrance Panel comprised of specially trained persons who relate to or understand the desired target group. The opinions of these people are an important decision-making tool for the composition of perfumes for Weleda.
What is the role of fragrances in Weleda products? A significant feature of Weleda fragrances is that only high-quality, natural fragrance raw materials are used. Relating to nature and to the genuine fragrances of the plants is the key.
Weleda products are characterised by the fact that they are developed within the company itself, from the idea to the finished product. The fragrance is created, not separately, but as an integral part of the product concept; just like the fragrance is an integral part of the product and supports its effect.

The holistic fragrance concept of the Weleda Evening Primrose Series
In accordance with the aroma-therapeutic approach and the holistic care concept, the fragrance of the Evening Primrose series supports the effect of the products. The fragrance suits the target group because it strengthens women aged 56 and older in their circumstances. The fragrance is a natural interpretation of the flowery, fresh, delicate scent of evening primrose blossoms as they open. The scent has a strengthening and structuring effect: it stimulates the sensory perception, promotes individuality, presence, joy of life and sensuality and sets strong accents.
The fragrance composition is comprised of three main components:
Cardamom gives the top note liveliness and freshness; is invigorating and stimulating, promotes concentration, raises you up and gives you energy.
Magnolia leaf is at the heart of the fragrance; a green-floral fragrance with exotic sensual nuances, it brings clarity and structures our thoughts, opens the heart, inspires and can give new impulses: in other words, it brings the proverbial breath of fresh air into your life.
The soft, woody-balsamic hints of sandalwood give the composition depth and leave behind a secretive, powdery soft, mysterious scent on the skin; sandalwood gives stability and helps to find balance and inner peace.
