NATRUE Certification
NATRUE is a non-profit organisation.
It is one of the certifications for natural skin care that has very high demands on natural and organic ingredients. It is transparent and has clear rules for which ingredients are approved or not, as well as which processes and extraction methods may be used. Weleda started its certification process in 2009, so soon all Weleda's products will carry the new NATRUE logo.
What is the NATRUE certification?
NATRUE will only certify products for companies who have the intent to always use ingredients as natural as possible within all manufacturing processes. At Weleda, we place very high demands on the ingredients in our products. Thanks to our own biodynamic cultivations, as well as the long-term Fair Trade contracts we have with farmers around the world, it is possible for us to have full control of the entire production chain. This means that you can rest assured Weleda's products always have the highest quality ingredients and that products are active and effective.
Levels of certification
There are 3 levels of certification to clarify a products use of organic, natural and near natural substances. It sets minimum levels for natural ingredients and maximum for derived natural ingredients per product group.
Natural Skin Care
Defines the quality for Naturalness that distinguishes all authentic Natural Skin Care - it's the foundation of all NATRUE certified products. It stipulates which ingredients are permitted and how they may be processed. It sets minimum levels for natural ingredients and maximum levels for derived natural ingredients per product group.
Natural Skin Care with Organic Ingredients
Cannot be attained by all Natural Skin Care products. In addition to the requirements of the first grade, higher minimum levels of natural ingredients are required and at least 70% of natural ingredients must stem from controlled organic production and/or controlled wild collection in accordance with the EC Eco Regulation.
Organic Skin Care
Sets the highest requirements. Minimum levels for natural ingredients are higher than for the second grade and at least 95% of their natural ingredients must stem from controlled organic production and/or controlled wild collection in accordance with the EC Eco Regulation.
The NATRUE-Label criteria key characteristics are
:
Only water, natural ingredients, derived natural ingredients and nature-identical ingredients are permitted.
Manufacturing processes for Natural Skin Care and their raw materials are strictly regulated.
Strict levels for natural ingredients and natural organic ingredients apply for all 3 levels.
