Jojoba
Fair Trade Jojoba
The “oil” or liquid wax of the jojoba plant is highly prized for use in skin care and is widely used throughout Weleda Skin Care formulations. The climate and landscape of Argentina provides an ideal environment for Jojoba cultivation. Nearly one-half of the world’s jojoba harvest is grown in this area.
In order to achieve the necessary quantity of this essential raw material, Weleda has partnered with several cooperatives—each following strict, organic cultivation quality standards. The cultivation of the jojoba plant in Argentina has supported the re-greening of over 17,000 acres of desert. The young plants can be harvested and pressed for the first time within three years of being planted. Approximately 2 pounds of seeds yields 1 pint of “oil.”
